Movie of a Game

For anyone who spent 60 quid on Doom3, here is another way to waste more money on it. The spooky nature of the sets seem to be preserved, as well as that goddamn flash light. I wonder will the rock have the sense to strap it onto his shotgun. The creatures seem to have been preserved too.

Even with the Rock’s growing movie pull, it has pit fall written all over it. Arguably, AVP a verified flop, was more of a comic book adaption then a movie cross over and had a much bigger following. Where this fell down was the sheer disrespect it showed to the earlier movies in the series (Aliens on the earth already, wasnt stopping them getting there the whole point of the first 3 alien movies?) and the limited audience which it reached for. However, in the first two Alien movies lies the blue print for the success of Doom. Should it be a horror/thriller or just a gun fest with a hint of black humour then it stands a good chance of creating its own cult following. However, if its just resident evil in space, I dare say many will sprint to the shops to buy that add on pack or Doom4?

  1. well i cant argue with any of that, well said to be honest,,, (dear god AVP was bad!) (id make a better AVP movie with some string ,some chewing gum ,a pen knife and Angus McGuiver!, now thats a movie!)
To be honest Ive watched the interviews with the rock and co , and some of the movie sounds great and even looks great… check out the beasties… theres also a 1st person section of the movie, so that could be very cool for us gamers… but yeah truth be told its likely to be a pile of cack. And whats the human genome to do with anything!,,, the story is simple ,they open hell ,and it breaks loose! eeejits in hollywood! keep it simple.
Ahh well we just have to wait and see if its a turkey ,but will it be worse than this list of movies!
The Dessent (the cave , in the US)
Van Helsing (dear god, it was bad)
    AVP (those bastards!)
Stealth (the dude won an oscar and does this!, great move dumb ass!)
any more horror bad movies and ill cry.
    So ill stop!

  2. Well were due for a decent game to movie crossover, over bloody due infact. I’m not expecting to see oscar winning preformances here, infact im keeping my expectations to a minimum. If you come to terms with the fact your going to watch a movie made purely to wow you and give you some cheap thrills im sure you’ll leave the theatre satisfied.

I am however highly antisipating both the Max Payne and Silent Hill movies in production. Given the stories in both games and their sequels were of top quality and worth bringing to the big screen I suspect we may get our first game to movie crossover box office hit without needing Angelina Jolies breasts.

  4. If I had to venture a guess I would say this movie will be similar to having open heart surgery…….done by a drunken second rate russian doctor with a rusty spoon.

Its only chance lies in creating a good action flick. I would not expect head scratching plot twists…..or even druel running out the sides of your mouth plot twists for that matter.

Is it only a matter of time before we see a Half Life movie. Perhaps Ben Affleck could play Gordon…..and made it THE worst film ever made!!!!

  5. Morgan Freeman as the dude with one leg…what’s his name again? It’s been so long since i played the game :(

Angelina Jolie or maybe J-Lo…as Alyx?

Oh and the Combine defector who helps you escape??…

It’s got to be ‘Norm’ from Cheers!!

  6. Does anyone want to put their reputation on the line and call whether DOOM will be a box office success though?

Its down for a winter release, when a lot of horrors, but not so much action movies come out. Target market wise, Its main rivals will have to be “the fog”, a remake of the John Carpenter classic, The Legend of Zorro and Saw 2. This is not strictly good news, as all movies will have a solid base to build on, in the case of the first and last example even a cult following.

Even though Doom had a huge reputation among the gamer market, it lost a lot of credibility with its latest incarnation. This was possible down to the timing, any FPS released around the time of HL2 was going to be in for a rough time. However, Doom’s all action plot will have an ace in its sleeve that the other movies targeting the same market will not…..

Those morons who went to XXX2! And who will go to see Stealth and who thought Van Helsing was an original masterpiece. sadly, there are those who will watch the rock do anything from the scorpion king to walking tall. So even if the gamers stay away, they have timed their release to perfection, or so it would seem.

So mock me in the winter if I be wrong, but I reckon this will at least recoupe its production costs, if not be a hit.

Anyone want to call this too?
