I’m getting a disturbing number of visitors to this blog looking for cheats for Travian. For those of you who don’t know who travian is read all about it here and sign up!

I’m currently playing on Server 1 and have been doing so for many….many months. The great thing about travian (in my opinion) is the fact you can log in and spend a few minutes looking after your villages, without the need to constantly check back and micromanage your villages. As you progress and grow larger you will inevitably spend more time managing your villages, planning and instigating attacks and raids…….and of course defending your own from harm! There seems to be an initial period when you join a server where you can become raiding fodder for larger players…..and many players loose interest at this stage. The solution is to get into an alliance that can protect you, and repay them when you grow stronger due to their support.

At the moment we are in what the masses refer to as “The End Game”. Basically the developers of travian wrap up the server by releasing several “Wonder Villages”. It’s the goal of each alliance to seize a wonder city and build a wonder of the world to level 100. First to 100 wins….simple! Or so you would think! On my server there was a major “incident”, which serves to highlight the horrible lengths some people will go to in order to win (well not really win….cheat).

A collection of players managed to hack the travian account of our wonder village. They then sent all our defending troops home and had arranged attacks to arrive just as the troops left. It was ruthlessly executed but ultimately lead to them being banned from the server once the admin(s) realized what they had done. I must take my hat off too them for their resourcefulness and planning, but their skills could probably be better utilized by Mosad or the CIA.

I never understood cheating in computer games, as this is completely different from cheating in school exams! If you don’t finish a game it’s not like you don’t gain entrance to college. Games are designed to be immersive exciting experiences, and when you cheat the fun just completely evaporates. The sense of challenge and danger are no more….because you are now a cheating swine……who will die alone in a giant pair of incontinence pants ;)

Kwari Teaser video, kwari cash for kills

Filed under: MMPORG, FPS, General — Justin @ 9:48 am

Got this Kwari video sent on to me. Not a gamplay movie but it kind of shows who they are targeting with their advertising campaign. “Angry Teenagers of the World…..spend your money getting fragged!”

Kwari Teaser video

I have a few new screen-shots. I must say im not trilled with the engine. There screens look very average, however its the concept behind Kwari that will either make or break it. Its not like they are going head to head with Bioshock and Crysis now is it ;)

Information regarding the Kwari engine was released some time ago. Its the “BigWorld Engine”. There is a technology article about it here. Its no Unreal 3 or CryEngine 2, but as I said before its not the visuals that will draw players to Kwari, its the gameplay that will make or break Kwari…..and of course the €$€$

More to come!!!

Bioshock – A welcome shock to the system

Filed under: FPS — Martin @ 5:33 pm

Alice in Wonderland meets a Clockwork Orange and sets a trend as the next Half Life that’s strung out on LSD on the ocean floor.

This game speaks volumes, and the fact that it does with ease is very satisfactory. Straight off the bat it reminds me of the Fallout series. Set in an industrialised and “futuristic” 50s paradise city called Rapture, built under the ocean. Its retro theme is likeable right from the start. Large clunking machinery, water leaks and intricate yet archaic devices that will help you or kill you.

The first image emblazoned on your mind (apart from the awesome plane wreckage/ocean/fire at the start) is the leering statue of Rapture’s creator and the words, “No Kings or Gods, Only Man” You make your way down an eerie stair to a foreboding bathysphere which takes you on a colourful ride around Rapture before it drops you off to fend for yourself. Marvellous!

The game gets better and better with each sitting. There are games within the main game itself. Hacking vending machines, inventing special items and completing multiple goals all help you find your way through this extremely original and artistic rollercoaster ride.

Level and character design is beautiful. I was particularly amazed by the sheer awesomeness of the “Big Daddy”, with the low whale-like drone and the earth shaking footsteps, this beast is encased in a deep sea diving suit and carries a seriously dangerous looking sidearm.

It is scripted and linear like most games, but games like Half Life can show us that scripted games are not necessarily doomed right from the start. It’s a wonderful adventure that will leave you intrigued and coming back for more. There is a lot of potential with this baby, and I hope Take Two Interactive and 2K Games develop it.

I can see them making a MMORPG or even a movie out of this one!

Awesome game. Worth every penny.
