Jail Escape

Filed under: 3rd Person Adventure — Philip @ 10:06 pm

This game idea would see you pit your skills against the security of some of the most famous and infamous prisons around the world.

Survive the general day to day hazards of being an inmate, riggling your way out of awkward bathroom moments, including dangerously dropped bars of soap while all the time gathering the tools you need to make your escape.

This game idea is an original game idea as far as i am aware. There is plenty of scope for storyline and different settings such as obvious greats like alcatraz.

Features of this game would include puzzle solving, gaining hints through getting in with the right people while also trying to keeping undesirables off your back.

HDR Thief

Filed under: FPS — Justin @ 1:13 pm

If any series of games has pushed the envelope on the FPS genre….its the Thief series. I would almost go as far as saying it created a new genre unto itself. Solid storytelling set in an interesting universe, with a whole range of new game features, was enough to win a solid fan base.

My only gripe with Thief was the lousy AI. You could hide in a 2-inch shadow and a guard would pass straight past you. Also the engine did not seem to promote multiplayer game play as it would be all to easy to see your opponents sneaking around the place.

At last a technology has arrived to change all that….I hope! HDR or High Dynamic Range is a new technology being developed by the good folk at Valve. It will debut in the next serving of Half Life 2. Put simply it deals with our perception of light. Our eyes, like a camera, open and close based on the amount light we are exposed to. In a FPS this is not the case. With HDR it will become a reality! If you jump from a shadow into a lighted area you will be dazzled as your eyes adapt to the change. Also if in a bright room, you will not notice a deadly thief lurking in the shadows, until you move closer and you eyes adapt to the lower lighting.

This technology must and shall be implemented in a new Thief serving…..YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Capitalism: Revisited

This one may be more for shits and giggles (and not very PC, but I don’t care)….but lets see if any publisher would be brave enough to take this one on.

Imagine “The Sims”. But put it in a modern office. Now take Gerry Steiner, a 36 year old single balding man. Gerry lives at home with his dying mother. Every morning he awakes and dons his rat suit……walks the mile to the train and stands with the rest of the borg drones as they make their various ways to their plug-in points.

Gerry finds it hard fitting in and getting on with people. He buys products to fill the void, but all this is a front for a volcano brewing inside the slightly overweight Gerry Steiner……….

The office doors grind open, Gerry is not to be seen. His worried boss places an angry call but Gerry is on voice mail. It’s only sickness that cold keep this capitalist trooper away? 11:47…..as the lunch hungry lunch crowd readies itself for the dash to spend money……….the doors swing open……..

Gerry takes the receptionist out with his shotgun as he be-lines for the bosses office. He takes a few well aimed shots at some co-workers as he enters the office……………..I will not continue…you know where this is going.

So to stop story telling, you watch over a flock of workers. You minions do your bidding. Be a country club manager and everything will run well….but the business will go down the tubes. Be a tyrant and Gerry might just pay you a visit………it’s like “Mortal Sims”.

Post Apocalyptic resource management game

Filed under: Resource Management — Philip @ 9:34 pm

How about a game where the earth has been devastated by any number of natural or unnatural disasters. Your job is to rebuild through good leadership and resource management skills. Each disaster presents different yet equally challenging obstacles to overcome.

Examples:

Post ice age, post meteor strike . . .

Got an idea for a FPS, post it here.

Filed under: FPS — Administrator @ 2:11 pm

Let’s face it, apart from a facelift, the recent spate of FPS thrown out by developers have not seen a major revolution of the genre. Doom 3 thought us that dark corridors and the ability to hold just a flash light or a gun was a scary prospect……but did not offer anything NEW! Farcry is the only title of recent days to attempt to introduce a twist in the genre, by offering huge levels and an array of vehicles. Half Life touched on this, but I felt you were penned in as far as the vehicles were concerned. They were good games but they were very much re-inventions of the wheel.

Got any better ideas to help push this mule forward?
